DEBBIE LEE
A Board Director for The Vancouver Dance Centre Society and formerly the School Director of the renowned professional dance company Aspen Santa Fe Ballet hails from Aspen, Colorado back home to Vancouver, BC. Originally from Vancouver, British Columbia she commenced her professional career with The Vancouver Goh Ballet back in the 80’s.
For over 30years Debbie Lee has been committed as a student and performer, guest teacher, director, choreographer, stage manager and as an artistic consultant for many organizations across Canada and United States. She also was the founder of Richmond Hill Academy of Dance, Ontario; Uxbridge Academy of Dance, Ontario, DD Dance Productions, Ontario and BC Coastal Arts in Motion, British Columbia. Although Debbie Lee has worn many hats, she still likes to be considered as a forever student.
She has worked with many renown dance artists, movement practitioners, health and sport therapists, directors, choreographers and musicians that have influenced her as an artist and arts educator. She has created many unique original classical and contemporary works plus full-length productions for many organizations and companies. She is a highly trained educator that is very encouraging and supportive teacher who puts much emphasis on health and safety while still challenging students to meet their own potential and surpass their own expectations. Although Debbie Lee is highly recognized for her unique signature training in classical ballet for the recreational, emerging young artist to the professional dancers in classical and contemporary dance, she has also taught in many classical forms of set syllabus such as Royal Academy of Dance and Vaganova techniques.
Debbie Lee has developed an open style technique where she has blended the different disciplines of all forms of movement, ballet and contemporary dance techniques to broaden dancers and athletes to higher levels of understanding of technical and creative development while encouraging and guiding them to find their own creative voice. This style has proven to help her students at all levels of development. Her strengths, abilities and experience that she holds as a mentor has given her classes a unique approach to teach clean and pure technique with lyrical qualities in a warm, fun and energetic atmosphere. Dancers and athletes from all forms are able to accomplish a strong base and understanding of technical development when training with Debbie Lee. She is committed to facilitate high artistic educational standards and programs that will enrich and inspire new generation of creative thinkers and artists. A lot of her students are now with San Francisco Ballet, Gothenburg Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, North Carolina School of the Arts, Interlochen Arts, Boston Ballet School, Utah Ballet, Australia Ballet School, Royal Ballet School and the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet Company just to name a few.
Debbie Lee has always been moved by many individuals. Since her move back home to the lower mainland, she has assisted artists such as Oscar Nieto and Kasandra Lea of Al Mozaico Flamenco Dance Company and unique musicians such as Lan Tung and Jonathan Bernard of Orchid Ensemble. She is a global traveler where she makes artistic appearances and travels for pleasure interacting with the locals traditional and contemporary artistic communities. She continues her active life guest teaching locally and is now comfortably settled back home in Vancouver. She is very proud to be a part of the Vancouver, BC artistic community again with fresh energy and lots of enthusiasm for many years to come.
